Every year, when I lead my annual retreat in Italy, I take my guests out to a wine tasting. It’s always a fun part of the trip. Summertime in Italy… amazing women… fabulous wine… a beautiful gathering in a local store savoring the best Italy has to offer… I mean, it doesn’t get much better than that.
This year, one of the wines that we tasted was called È ISS. It was delicious. I asked our wine guide, “What does È ISS mean?”
He explained that it meant, “This is it” in Neopolitan.
I got chills.
È ISS. This is it.
If I ever get a tattoo, it will be those words. (Instead, my best friend Frances made me a bracelet.)
I want to always remember… THIS IS IT. This is your one life.
Pour the wine. Book the flight. Wear whatever the hell you want. Post your online dating profile already. Pull your kid out of school for the day and play hooky. Sunbathe topless. Let your stomach feel the sun. Say the words that need to be said. Forgive yourself and move on. Give yourself whatever “special experience” you’ve been putting off for so, so long. Take one big, brave, decisive step towards the life that you want.
It’s time. È ISS. This is it.
