Welcome to the Rich Coach Club, the podcast that teaches you how to build your dream coaching practice and how to significantly increase your income. If you're a coach and you're determined to start making more money, this show is for you. I'm master certified life coach Susan Hyatt, and I'm psyched for you to join me on this journey.
Serious question. Are you waiting to be rescued? When it comes to your business, your income, your financial security, are you waiting for someone to rescue you? Are you waiting like a damsel in distress, like Rapunzel, flinging your hair out of the tower, waiting for a brave prince to ride along on a stallion and save you?
You might think uh, no, I am not a damsel in distress, thank you very much, I am a strong ass woman and I am not waiting for a man to rescue me. Hell no. Okay, yeah sure. Maybe you're not waiting to be rescued by a man, maybe you're waiting to be rescued by someone or something else. For instance, I've heard so many women complain about how much they hate sales and marketing, and how they want to hire someone to handle all that stuff.
I've literally heard women say ugh, I hate marketing. I want to hire a marketing director to handle everything for me so I don't have to do any of that stuff. I know this will transform my business and just change everything for me. But do you see how this kind of thinking is just another version of the white knight damsel in distress storyline?
Any time you convince yourself that one magical person, like a marketing director or a copywriter or a publisher or whatever is going to change everything for you and completely transform your financial situation, that's a mental red flag. It's a disempowering way of thinking. Disempowering, and frankly, unrealistic. It just doesn't work like that, and yet so many entrepreneurs fall into this trap.
And on today's episode, we're going to discuss when is it the right time to invest in your business and hire someone to join your team and when is it not the right time. And if you're considering hiring an intern, a virtual assistant, a marketing consultant, a web designer, any type of business support, this episode is gold for you. I want to help you make more money and avoid unnecessary spending and drama and tears and Kleenex, so listen up because you are so not a damsel in distress. There's no interview in today's episode. You've got me all to yourselves, so here we go.
As always, we're starting with a segment that I call your two-minute pep talk, and this is the part of the show where I share some motivation and encouragement to get your week started off right, and I try to keep things to two minutes or less.
With any relationship in life, whether it's a romantic relationship, a friendship, or a business relationship, you want to step into that relationship from a place of power, confidence, strength. You want to enter into this new relationship feeling like my life is already amazing, my cup is already full, things are already flourishing. I don't need this person to fix anything.
However, this new person is going to enhance my life and help me rise even higher. So for instance, if you want to higher an assistant, ideally you'd begin this relationship from a place of power. Ideally, you'd be saying to yourself hey, my business is already popping, I love my work, I'm proud of what I've built, my clients are getting great results. I'm making good money, though I know I could make more and I'm ready to rise and soar to that next level and I'm excited.
That's the kind of mindset you want. Hiring people to join your business team can be a great thing on many levels. Personally, hiring new people has absolutely helped me to scale from six figures to seven and multiple seven figures. However, it's so important to hire with discernment. Before you spend a bunch of money to bring someone new onto your team, stop and consider why you feel compelled to hire this person.
Are you feeling exhausted, insecure, powerless, desperate, wanting to be magically rescued? Is your emotional cup empty or full? And do you have unrealistic expectations about hiring this person? Like you're just going to sit back passively and hand over the reins and they're going to magically triple your monthly sales? Nope, business never works like that.
So here's my advice. Before investing in your business, first check in with yourself. Examine your thoughts and feelings and check your motivations. Check your expectations, and check and see if you're doing this because you feel powerful and you want to rise even higher, or because you feel powerless and you're hoping to be rescued.
When you begin a new business relationship from a place of power, that's a relationship that's going to flourish, and that's a relationship that's going to lead to more money, more freedom, more of all the beautiful things you want. Hire with power. You are not a helpless princess locked in a tower. You are a fucking queen. Pep talk complete.
Now we're moving into the part of the show where I give shout-outs to you. Shout-outs to listeners, clients, all the wonderful people in my business community. And today I want to give a shout-out to Nisha. So Nisha left me a five-star iTunes review and she said, "Susan Hyatt's podcasts are full of life. She oozes so much enthusiasm, energy, and confidence that if you listen to this regularly, you'll find yourself hitting the go button on your life, doing things you never thought you would in a good way. She's also super relatable, funny, and plain nice."
Well, thank you Nisha. "She's a great role model for going for what you crave, setting boundaries, and maintaining drive. Love this." Awesome. Thank you so much. And hey, if you have something to say about this show, please send an email to my team, post a five-star iTunes review, or post something on social media and tag me, and you might hear your name on a future episode. I love, love, love giving shout-outs to people in my community, so holler at me. Thank you for the love. I love you right back.
So don't go anywhere because before this episode ends, I want to share a few more resources that are great recommendations for you. If you're ready to hire someone to join your business team, here's some great websites to check out. The first one is a website called Fiverr and this is where you can go and hire freelancers for all kinds of projects, large and small, starting at just $5. I mean, what? For real.
I've actually made a couple of good hires off of Fiverr. If you need someone to design a quick logo for you or do some coding on your website or edit some audio, whatever, you can check out this site. It's fiverr.com. There's also something called upwork.com, and Upwork is pretty similar to Fiverr. You can hire freelancers for all kinds of business projects. And I actually found a great illustrator a couple of years ago on Upwork who designed the Bare Deck.
Taskrabbit.com, you guys, Task Rabbit is a great place to hire out domestic help, housekeepers, people to run errands. You want to get - if you don't have someone who does that kind of stuff for you yet and you're looking to free up some time, Taskrabbit.com is a live saver. When I travel, I use Task Rabbit a lot. I don’t have it here where I live in Evansville, Indiana, but in a lot of major cities, Task Rabbit is great. Grocery shopping, all that kind of stuff.
You can pay someone $50 to spend a few hours running errands for you and then you've freed up your afternoon and you can make $500 or more working with clients. That's a good investment. There's also the International Virtual Assistants Association, ivaa.org, and you can send a message and tell them what kind of VA you're looking to hire, and then qualified VAs will reply to you with pricing info.
There's so many hardworking, creative, awesome people out there who'd love to support you so when the timing is right, now you know a few places to start searching for your next squad member. And of course, if you're already running a multiple six, seven, multiple seven-figure business, it's a whole different ball of wax advertising and hiring employees, which I will do an episode on that at a later time.
So thank you for listening to today's episode and to sum it up, hiring a freelancer can be great, hiring full-time employee can be great, hiring a coach or consultant can be great, just like getting married can be great. Just make sure you're going into this relationship for the right reasons and make sure you're going into this with power and strength and excitement. Not insecurity. This makes all the difference. Trust and believe.
