Get your thrawn on.

In this episode I’m sharing one of my favorite new words (from Scotland) and how you can use it in your life to pursue your dreams with absolute resolve.

I got back from my trip to Scotland a few weeks ago. One of my favorite things about traveling is how it always exposes me to new ideas, new ways of living, and sometimes… new words!

A new word that I learned in Scotland is: “Thrawn.”

This is an old Gaelic word that means: “Absolute resolve.”

So, if you’re a “thrawn woman,” it means you are absolutely devoted to your goals. You are stubborn. You are persistent. You dig in your heels and refuse to back down. You will fight to the death to create the life that you want.

Dr. Sasha Heinz—one of the women who came with me on the Scotland retreat—got super inspired by the word “thrawn” and she wrote an awesome Instagram post about it. Here’s what she wrote:

Ladies, we need more thrawn. We need to stubbornly go after the life we really want. We need to pursue our dreams with absolute resolve when the endless to do list wants to crowd it out. We need to obstinately say no to volunteering for things we don’t want to do and carve out time for the things that bring us joy. We need to remain steadfast to ourselves and be the mothers, wives, daughters, sisters, friends, and women we want to be, never yielding to expectations that dim our light. So, get your thrawn on.

YAAAAAAAAS! Ladies. Just like Sasha said: Get your thrawn on.

Here’s my challenge for you this week…

I want you to identify 1 area of your life that needs… a little more thrawn.

Maybe you need to apply a little more thrawn to… marketing your products and services. Maybe you’ve been a little lackadaisical about it. Maybe you’ve been doing a lot of “busywork” but avoiding the REAL work that’s going to help you meet your goals. THRAWN IT UP, YO.

Or maybe you need to bring a little more thrawn into your self-care. Maybe you’ve been skipping your workouts, skimping on sleep, over-committing yourself, and forgetting to, like, shower and feed yourself regularly. Maybe it’s time to get THRAWNED UP about taking care of your body.

Choose a part of your life that needs more thrawn. And do it. Be stubborn. Be insistent. Be solid and obstinate. Be fierce like a Scottish warrior. Maybe put on a kilt if that helps get you into a thrawn mood! Hey, it couldn’t hurt! (My husband Scott would probably enjoy it VERRRRY much if I started wearing little kilts around the house. But that is a topic for another podcast! LOL.)
