Welcome to the Rich Coach Club, the podcast that teaches you how to build your dream coaching practice and how to significantly increase your income. If you're a coach and you're determined to start making more money, this show is for you. I'm master certified life coach Susan Hyatt, and I'm psyched for you to join me on this journey.
Oh, hello and happy Monday, peeps. So a couple of weekends ago, I hosted one of my mastermind events right here in Evansville, Indiana, where I live. People who live here call it Heaven’s-ville. So all my peeps came to Heaven’s-ville, and as many of you know, I host retreats all over the world.
Everywhere from Capri, Positano, to Georgia, to California, just all over the place. And while the location may change, my determination and dedication to host top notch, life-changing, over the top retreats never wavers. In fact, one of my favorite retreat traditions is to treat my people to what I call movie moments during the event.
And of course, movie moments are where my clients experience a setting that makes them go wow. I want them to feel like they’ve stepped out of real life and into the scene of a movie. Glamorous, special, and abso-fucking-lutely fabulous.
So I’m serious when I say that the picnic I planned for this last retreat was picture perfect. Even Pinterest worthy. I pulled out all the stops. So a picnic sounds pretty simple, right? Well, not really. Anything but simple for my people. I want a gorgeous table setting complete with fine linen tablecloth, china, fresh flowers, and a scenic location.
So here in Heaven’s-ville, that meant going to the state part for a hike and then having my caterers set up the picnic by this little lake. So what’s the problem? The problem is that every time I plan something outdoors like this, either the caterer or the event planner or the guide, whoever I’ve got involved, they start to get a little squirrely about the weather.
They worry. Maybe it’ll rain, maybe it’ll be too cold, what if it’s too hot, whatevs. Because when you plan something outside, you don’t have total control. And most people who plan events want to have total control. And there’s been times in the past when I’ve listened to people that I’ve hired and pulled the plug because they get worried about like, you’re going to be standing out there in the rain.
But usually when I say okay and I concede, the day turns out to be amazingly beautiful and there was no problem with the weather and then I’m left with regret and frustration. So this time around, I took a very different attitude. My attitude was the picnic is fucking happening. No matter how many times they texted my assistant wanting to create a backup plan, I responded with nope, the picnic is happening.
No hesitation, no second-guessing. I just simply refused to be left with any damn it, I wish I had stuck with it moments. Those days are gone. So do you let other people talk you out of doing something that you really love and believe in? And do you get cold feet yourself? Do you let the doubts, fears, and anxieties storm into your life and kill your motivation and best intentions?
Are you unknowingly creating bad weather for your business? Well, the time has come. It’s time to create a new motto for your life and business and the new motto is the picnic is happening. How often do you talk yourself out of things? How often do you worry, well, what if they don’t like it? What if they don’t like me? What if I make a mistake? What if no one buys it? What if I say the wrong thing?
It’s the what-ifs that will ultimately kill your success. So don’t hedge your bets. Don’t fall for the what-ifs because it’s time to release your self-doubts today. Remember, all those self-doubts come from only the thoughts in your mind and those thoughts just create negative, uncomfortable emotions and then you end up with not creating the dream experiences you wanted because you’ve allowed that doubt to rule you.
But what if you changed your mind? What if you changed your thoughts to I’m doing this no matter what? Then, that might create feelings of calm and confidence and excitement. And in turn, then your results might be even better than you could have ever imagined. And that’s, my friends, how my bougie picnic turned out, by the way. Picture perfect.
So here’s your two-minute pep talk for the week and this is the part of the show where I share some encouragement and inspiration to get your week started off right, and I try to keep things to 120 seconds or less.
So our topic this week is creating the results you want by fearlessly pursuing your goals and dreams. One of the ways that you can get what you want, in addition to having that mantra, the picnic is fucking happening is to ask for what you want.
Now, I’ve talked about this a million times and you might think this sounds easier than it truly is, but what if it really was just that simple? Has there ever been a time in your life or business where you really wanted something but you were afraid to ask for it? I know there is. I go through this all the time.
What about asking for a testimonial or a review from a prior client? What about asking for more money? What about asking another coach to mentor you? Or admitting that you need business help and hiring somebody to help you scale? What if you had just asked for it?
I think you’d be surprised at the results that you can get if you’re just willing to ask. The thing to come to grips with is that people who love you and who want to help and support you need to be asked and directed. They’re not just going to spontaneously - usually, not spontaneously just send you testimonials or do what you want.
Your potential clients aren’t just going to come and knock on your door and beg you to coach them. I mean, it does happen sometimes but rarely. You have to tell them what you have to offer, what’s the problem that you solve, and then make an offer to help them. You have to ask them if they want to work with you.
And then ask them to pay you what you’re truly worth. So if you’re listening to this and you’re still worried about making a big ask, think about it this way. What if asking someone to work with you could change their lives and the lives of the people around them? What if you charging what you’re worth could increase your business and your outreach so that you could help even more people?
And what if asking for that testimonial is the very one that a potential client reads that convinces him or her to take that next step and contact you? You may not yet realize the power of the ask but it’s there. It’s waiting for you to grab it and take control. So be bold, be courageous, ask for what you want and watch the dollars pour in.
Now we’re moving into the part of the show where I give shout-outs to you; shout-outs to listeners, clients, all the wonderful people in my business community. And today, I want to give a shout-out to somebody who left me a five-star review with the name SKNizzy.

I listen to her podcast while I’m making breakfast and her podcasts are chock full of juicy content and I’m always taking copious notes. I always walk away with such a spirited attitude after listening to her podcast. Keep up the great work, Susan.”

And hey, if you have something to say about this show, please send an email to my team or post a five-star iTunes review and you might hear your name on a future episode. I love giving shout-outs to folks in my community so holler at me. Thank you for the love and I love you right back.
So throughout this episode, we’ve been talking about sticking to your plans and taking action no matter what. Let’s consider the why for a moment. Why do you think you fall into the trap of second-guessing yourself? I think the reason some of us fall into this doubting trap over and over is because it’s just easier to play it safe.
If we play it safe, then we don’t have to manage all of our anxieties. And in the business world, particularly with all of us coaches, I believe that the energy we bring to our work is crucial. So if I came into this saying I hope the weather’s good and that everyone can enjoy a picnic, that’s a tentative type energy. I hope it’s good, I want everyone to enjoy it.
Listen, instead, I choose to come into this by saying repeatedly and without hesitation, the picnic is happening. It will be unforgettable. Just saying those words out loud sparks confidence and lessens the worry and anxiety that can absolutely stall your business in its tracks.
So whatever goals you have for your company, the picnic is happening. And what about this finding the right time to do things? This is one of the biggest excuses I hear from people in my inbox is it’s not the right time. If you want to talk yourself out of something, just start putting it off by saying it’s not the right time or you don’t have time to do it.
Listen, time is an illusion, people. But be aware that if you go down the road of there’s not enough time, you’ll soon find there’s never time and there’s never the right time. There will never be the right time to start your business, never the right time to build your team, never the right time to start working out, never the right time to try a new hairstyle. Never the right time to buy that hot as fuck dress.
So here’s my advice. It is always the right time. You just need to decide and you need to take action. If it’s something you truly want, then the time is right. There’s no reason you can’t do it your way. Remember, when it came to my picnic, I stopped being wishy-washy. The shit was happening. It was going down just like I’d planned and that was that. Period. End of discussion.
I brought a power-filled energy with me and it resulted in success. And when it comes to your business, it’s all about the energy. The next time you start to doubt yourself, just remember, the picnic is fucking happening. Bon appetit.
Thank you for listening to today’s episode. Now it’s time for you to shift your energy. Remember that nothing needs to be perfect for it to happen. You just need to get going and make it happen. Start by starting. Make sure that your successful life is happening today and every day, and everything you do in life and in your business, bring that energy of absolute certainty and make a decision and stick with it.
Make the ask, don’t make excuses or wait for the right time that will likely never come, and don’t let your negative thoughts take over and create negative results. You are confident and strong and you get things done. Believe it and live it.
