Hello and welcome to the BARE Podcast! I’m your host, Susan Hyatt.

Wanna read the full transcript? Here ya go:

I’m a master certified life coach. I’m an author and entrepreneur. I’m also a wife and mom with two kids. And I’m the creator of the BARE process and the BARE DAILY online community.

As you will soon learn, if we’ve never met before, I am very outspoken and honest. I do not censor myself when it comes to my personal or political beliefs. I am a proud feminist. I am very passionate about women’s rights, women’s empowerment, and women’s mental and physical health. I am so TIRED of seeing women hate their bodies, harm their bodies, and feel unworthy and full of shame.

When we obsess over our bodies, it’s so exhausting, and it’s such a distraction from the priorities that really matter—like spending quality time with people you love, or starting a business, or running for Senate, or whatever you want to do with your life.

For WAY too long, we have obsessed over our bodies in a really unhealthy way, and I want all of that madness to STOP.

I want to help create a generation of women who are stronger, braver, and more confident than ever before in all of HISTORY. Women who LOVE their bodies and ENJOY their lives to the fullest.

So, this is not just a podcast for me. It’s a mission. It’s a revolution. And I’m really glad you found your way here!

On the BARE podcast, we’re going to talk about… how to treat your body with love and respect… how to build more energy and confidence to go after your goals… how to add more pleasure and fun into your daily routine… and how to make the most of each and every day.

So, welcome! Thank you for being here.

I hope this podcast makes a difference in your day!

If we’ve never connected before, here’s a little info about my story to bring you up to speed…

Earlier in my life, about 12 years ago, I felt MISERABLE about my body. I would diet and starve myself. Then I would binge-eat and gain weight. Then I’d repeat that pattern over and over. My weight would swing up and down, up and down.

Back then, I avoided photos because I hated getting my picture taken. I didn’t want to be on camera. I didn’t want to be seen. I wanted to hide from the world. I was in a really dark place.

So, how did all of this happen? How did I become so unhappy with my body?

Well, it’s a long and complex story, which is why I wrote an entire book about it.

But the short version of the story is: there were lots of really stressful things happening in my life—and I didn’t know how to manage my stress levels in a healthy way. So, most of the time, I turned to food to cope with everything I was feeling.

What kinds of stress? Well, for starters, I had two small kids at home and I was adjusting to being a mom. I had career that I didn’t like and I HATED going into the office. Also, I was recovering from sexual trauma, and I had tons of unresolved emotions all bottled up inside of me. So much grief and anger.

And so, like so many women, I turned to food as a way to numb out. I would snack mindlessly in front of the TV to escape my emotions. I was totally disconnected from my body. I barely even tasted my food. I never paid attention to when I was actually hungry or actually full. Food wasn’t really a source of fuel or pleasure in those days—mainly, it was just a way to numb out. And I ended up gaining almost 40 pounds.

After trying dozens of diets and systems like Jenny Craig and Weight Watchers, I reached a point where I was totally breaking down, both mentally and physically. I was so frustrated and I realized, “All of these diets are NOT WORKING and I just feel like crap. There’s got to be some other way to lose weight and feel better.”

That was a turning point for me. I decided, “No more dieting. I’m going to stop that.” Slowly, over the course of about a year, I learned how to treat my body with more respect and gentleness.

I learned how to talk to myself in a kinder way.

I started taking a 20-minute walk every morning. Later, walking turned into jogging, and then jogging turned into running.

I started eating differently, too. Instead of eating fast food in my car in the middle of an intersection, I’d sit down at an actual table with a fork and plate. I’d slow down, eating mindfully and attentively, actually savoring my food.

I made all kinds of changes in my life, including changing my social circle, and eventually my career.

That year, I shed the extra 40 pounds of physical weight. But more importantly, I shed about 10,000 pounds of emotional weight.

I shed old attitudes, old beliefs, old commitments that I didn’t want on my calendar, a job that I didn’t want, and so much more. I cleared away all kinds of things that were weighing me down. I felt so much lighter and happier and braver.

Yes, my body transformed, but really, that was just the tip of the iceberg. My whole LIFE transformed. The weight loss was really just a reflection of the bigger transformation that was happening.

Pretty quickly, people began noticing the difference. People would come up to me on the street and say, “Susan, whoa, you look so different. Your body is totally different. Even your eyes seem different. You seem more… alive. What have you been doing?”

I started sharing my story. People seemed really curious to hear more. So, then I started blogging about it. And I decided to talk to women about it. It started with some conversations, which turned into coaching sessions and classes, which turned into an online community… the ripple continued to expand!

After working with 1,000 women online, and after 10,000 hours of training and practice as a master certified life coach, I decided to take everything I’d learned and create a trademarked process that I call: BARE.

Today, I run a program called BARE DAILY, and I certify coaches in my BARE process, and I have a BARE card deck, and I recently got a publishing deal to release the BARE book. And now we’ve got… the BARE Podcast! Yeeeeeah! The BARE revolution is burning strong, and really, ladies, we are just getting started.

So, if you keep listening to the BARE Podcast, what can you expect?
