Today I want to discuss a mindset—an attitude—that might be wrecking your mood, your productivity, and your success.
I will teach you how to DITCH that old attitude and create a NEW attitude. Because I want YOU to have a “CAN DO” attitude, not an “UGGGGH I JUST CAN’T” attitude. 🙂
Here’s the attitude we’re discussing today:
“I DON’T HAVE THE TIME/MONEY/RESOURCES TO DO THIS.”
Oof. This is a very common thought, ladies! It’s a frustrating one.
Maybe you’re dreaming about launching a project that is BIG and EPIC… and you’re staring at your budget and your budget is… not quite so epic. At least not yet.
It can feel demoralizing.
But here’s the thing:
Whatever you dream about building, there is ALWAYS a way to make it happen, even if you’re working with limited time, energy, or financial resources.
I remember—a few years ago—I had this fantasy of traveling all around the country to meet with women and host fabulous dinner parties.
I wanted a private chef! And fancy silverware! And candles! And champagne! And events happening in six or seven different cities! And I would charge money for tickets and it would be AMAZING. Yaaaaaas!
Except, I hadn’t tested this idea, and I had no idea if my clients would be into this, or if anybody would sign up. Plus, back then, I didn’t have the budget to book swanky venues and hire chefs for events all around the country. So, I decided to start really, really small.
I threw a dinner party—right in my backyard—and I kept it really simple. I kept the budget really tight. I got my family and friends to help out. It didn’t cost much to pull it together and it was SO MUCH FUN. The guests loved it.
After that, gradually, I expanded into other cities.
And since then, I’ve thrown dinner party events and seminars and retreats all around the world. But it didn’t happen instantly. I started with something small—and inexpensive. And gradually, I built upward from there.
You can do the same thing.
Maybe you don’t have the budget to book an entire theater for a performance. But maybe you could do an awesome show in your living room and pack thirty people in there.
Maybe you don’t have the budget to hire an audio engineer to produce your podcast. But maybe you could grab your phone, record a 20 second audio message, and email it to your favorite client to inspire them.
Maybe you don’t have the budget to rent a yacht for your annual staff party. But maybe you could rent adorable bicycles for everyone and pedal all around town and do a super cute Instagram photo shoot. You get the idea.
Whatever you’re dreaming about… there’s always a way to make it happen, to get it started. You’ll need to be resourceful. You might need to adjust the scope of your idea. You might need to rally your friends to help out. But you can do it.
There’s always a way.
Right now, I encourage you to write down a business goal or dream that feels impossible because of limited resources. Something that feels too big, too expensive, too time consuming, whatever.
Write down that dream.
And then, ask yourself, “What’s a smaller, simpler version of this idea that I COULD do… or at least START… right now?”
Write down your smaller, simpler version of the idea. And then… DO IT! Get things in motion.
Every empire begins with laying down one brick. You can lay down that first brick now… and build upward from there.
